An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Associate Fire Engineer to join a national practice of Building Design professionals. This role involves delivering fire engineering design solutions across a wide variety of sectors, including Cities & Development, Commercial, Energy, Residential, and Transportation.

The Associate Fire Engineer Role

As a Senior member of the Fire Engineering team, you will:

  • Work on projects ranging from residential buildings to rail transportation and new energy facilities.
  • Manage multiple engineering projects from inception through delivery, ensuring compliance with fire safety standards and codes.
  • Support junior team members and collaborate with other senior team members to strengthen the team's technical capability.
  • Track project milestones and budgets to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Stay updated with current regulations and legislation.
  • Develop and implement fire strategies.
  • Assess fire-related risks in projects and collaborate on mitigation strategies.
  • Review and comment on the quality of fire safety installations.
  • Participate in tenders for new projects and develop client relationships to identify potential work opportunities.
  • Prepare reports, attend design team meetings, and liaise with client representatives as needed.
  • Support and mentor junior team members and act as a technical reviewer on project submissions.

Requirements

  • An engineering degree, preferably in fire engineering, or a postgraduate qualification in fire engineering (other backgrounds considered).
  • Extensive experience in fire engineering roles, including consultancy and other sectors.
  • Strong experience with multiple fire standards such as BS9999, NFPA 130, BS9992, EN45545.
  • Proven record of successfully delivering fire strategies.
  • Fire modelling experience is advantageous.
  • Chartered or working towards chartered fire engineer status.
  • Flexible approach to the working environment.
  • Willingness to travel is advantageous.
  • Strong commercial awareness.
  • Customer-focused approach.
