A Small-medium sized, well respected Construction contractor, based in Canvey are seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager to join their team.

Now well established and going through a period of growth, this professional organisation have a significant pipeline of projects.

The successful Health & Safety Manager will be joining an organisation who firmly believe that their people are their strongest asset and provide strong training and development.

About the role

The successful Health & Safety Manager will immediately join the team working on major projects in London, Essex, Kent and Cambridge areas.

The Health & Safety Manager will:

  • Assist with and be the 'responsible person' for the organisation, for purposes of the reporting of Health and Safety matters and providing competent advice
  • Establish a positive health and safety culture

  • Development and regular review of company Health and Safety policy

  • Assist with the completion and regular review of risk assessments, method statements, COSHH, MSDS, Manual Handling assessments, DSE assessments, Toolbox talks, creating new templates and other safety related documentation

  • Management of investigation into incidents / accidents and maintenance of appropriate records as and when required. RIDDOR and near-miss reporting as required

  • Carry out planned and ad-hoc site inspections and Audits

  • Ensure that safety inspections and audits are carried out at regular intervals on all active sites, head office and satellite offices. Ensure that all findings are communicated to relevant Contracts Manager and Director responsible for Health and Safety as appropriate

  • Carry out regular internal audits for company management system

This is a new role. It is a great opportunity for someone to take control of Health & Safety and put their own stamp on it.

The requirements of the Health & Safety Manager

  • NEBOSH Construction certificate
  • Strong people skills and the ability to build relationships.
  • Good written and presentational skills
  • Experience of presenting SHE advice, information and plans in an engaging way to managers at different levels within an organisation.
  • 4 years experience in construction Health & Safety
  • Experience within Scaffolding
  • GradIOSH or CMIOSH preferred.
