A leading Building Design Practice is seeking an Assistant Fire Engineer eager to develop their career within a progressive multi-sector environment. This role offers the opportunity to work alongside a national team of design professionals, delivering fire engineering solutions across diverse sectors such as Cities & Development, Commercial, Energy, Residential, and Transportation.
The Assistant Fire Engineer Role
As an Assistant Fire Engineer, you will:
- Work on a variety of projects, from residential buildings to rail transportation and new energy facilities.
- Support projects from inception through to delivery, ensuring compliance with fire safety standards.
- Assist in the timely and cost-effective delivery of project work.
- Stay updated with current regulations and legislation.
- Aid in the development of fire strategies.
- Conduct site visits to assess fire-related risks and collaborate on mitigation strategies.
- Review and comment on the quality of fire safety installations.
- Participate in tenders for new projects.
- Prepare reports, attend design team meetings, and liaise with client representatives as needed.
Requirements
- An engineering degree, preferably in fire engineering, or a postgraduate qualification in fire engineering (other backgrounds considered).
- Familiarity with fire standards such as BS9999, NFPA 130, BS9992, EN45545 is beneficial.
- Fire modelling experience is advantageous.
- Experience outside of the building sector is a plus.
- Ability to work towards chartered fire engineer status.
- Flexibility in the working environment.
- Willingness to travel is advantageous.
- Strong commercial awareness.
- Customer-focused approach.
- Clear and structured report writing skills.
